Tottenham Hotspur are easily the busiest side in the transfer market this late as they were yet to officially add a player to their squad this summer until a day back. They have announced the signature of Ajax centre back Davinson Sanchez but Mauricio Pochettino is not completely happy with his options at the back and is eyeing yet another defender.
According to reports from the Guardian, Tottenham Hotspur, who agreed on a fee with Davinson Sanchez, are now close to landing Estudiantes defender Juan Foyth. The reports claim that Spurs, who were interested in his signature earlier this summer, are now hoping to conclude a deal for the teenager for around £9m before the deadline day. So who is Foyth and what will he add to the squad in London?
Born and brought up in La Plata, Argentina, the 19-year old started his youth career at Estudiantes and only moved into the senior side at the start of the year. A centre back by trait, Foyth picked up five senior appearances in the top flight in Argentina and has established himself as one of the most exciting defenders in the country at the moment.
He made his international debut with the Argentina U20 squad, where he is the first-choice centre back, making 12 appearances in the space of just eight months.
He has so far made just six competitive appearances in domestic leagues and is a player still learning the game but he has already shown enough promise to excite some of the best teams in Europe. Both Inter Milan and PSG were extensively linked with a move for the 19-year old but Spurs may have just managed to fend off all such interest to land him this summer.
Known for his technical ability, acceleration over short areas and dominance in the air, Foyth is a centre-back who is genuinely hard to beat. At his age, he still has to work on his strength but his hold up play and ability with the ball at his feet makes him one of the most exciting youngsters on show in Europe.
He is tailor-made for the English game and the lack of experience is not something that will faze Pochettino, making Foyth a decent signing for Spurs.
Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and Eric Dier are the first choice centre backs for Spurs this season while the newbie Davinson Sanchez and Kevin Wimmer are other options. But the manager might look to sell Wimmer and give Foyth a chance to shine in the first team next season itself.
