Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to continue with their great form from the last term, which almost made the champions of the Premier League but for some last minute goof-ups that led to them ending up in the second position on the league table. They will be kicking off their campaign this term against Newcastle United, who won the Championship last term to head back into the top tier after spending one season in the second tier.
The Spurs have restrained themselves so far from spending in the transfer market this summer, however, it seems that they are willing to invest a significant amount in the forthcoming days to bring in reinforcements into their team for the new season. They have been linked with quite a few players, one of the most significant among them being the rebel contract of Everton, Ross Barkley.
The English midfielder has been in contention to be a part of the Everton side, having refused to sign a new contract with the Toffees and has put his future in utter jeopardy. Everton have already brought in Davy Klaassen from Ajax and is using him in the most preferred position of Barkley, as an attacking midfielder on a regular basis, which is indicative of the fact that he is not a dire requirement in the team anymore.
This has irked a number of big name clubs in the Premier League, including the likes of defending champions Chelsea and last year’s runner ups Tottenham, who are looking to strengthen their sides to maintain their good form in the new season as well.
The home-grown player made 179 appearances so far for his current club Everton and has been one of the most influential players for not only the Toffees but for his national side as well. His big frame in the heart of the midfield is sure to deliver a feeling of security among his teammates and the Spurs will look to use it to the full in the forthcoming days in case they are able to lay a hand on the player in the ongoing summer transfer window.
The man in charge at the North London club, Mauricio Pochettino, is well known for his benevolent tutelage of young talents, nurturing them into superstars. He will not let the opportunity go to bring in a player like Barkley into his side for this season and make a world class player out of him under his careful guidance, and that is probably why he has not assigned the no.8 jersey to anyone in his roster for the new term.
