A heartbreaking defeat suffered at the hands of Chelsea at Wembley had to be soon forgotten as the matches come quickly. Burnley were the visitors this time as Mauricio Pochettino and Tottenham Hotspur looked determined to get back to winning ways and lay a marker towards their title charge. It was yet another dismal result however as Dele Alli’s opener was cancelled in the dying minutes by Wood as Burnley took a precious away point. Here’s how the Lilywhites have been rated after yet another disappointing result in the national stadium:-
GK: Hugo Lloris – 7/10
He had to step up after the mistake last week and he did. Made a fantastic save of Brady’s effort and denied Wood by making a bold tackle. He was let down by his defence however when Wood equalised and could have done nothing.
RB: Kieran Trippier – 3.5/10
He was just woeful today. Didn’t contribute much going forward and was caught high on the pitch way too many times.
CB: Toby Alderweireld – 6/10
Won aerial battles and was very tidy but his last ditch effort couldn’t prevent Wood from scoring. Not getting a clean-sheet is a blow.
CB: Jan Vertonghen – 7/10
Solid in his area and was better today than any of his defenders.
LB: Ben Davies – 5.5/10
Could have done better with his end product and the runs he made down the left. Defensively didn’t have so much to do like Trippier as Burnley went down the right back’s side. There’s so much scope for improvement and has his work cut out with Rose nearing recovery.
CDM: Eric Dier – 6/10
Clean and organised. Kept the ball ticking and filled in defensively whenever the team needed.
CM: Dembele – 7/10
As usual the Belgian dominated the midfield and kept battling for that region’s control and did well several times. Couldn’t contribute attacking wise but he was one of the best on the pitch fighting for Spurs.
FW: Christian Eriksen – 6/10
Missed a wonderful chance when Sissoko set him through but it was a disappointing day for the man from Denmark. He couldn’t thread key penetrating passes like he usually does.
CAM: Dele Alli – 7.5/10
Tried well to get past Burnley and looked alert in the final third but the away team kept him at bay with their rigidity. He got the crucial goal however so that tips the hat in his favour slightly compared to his compatriots.
FW: Heung-Min Son – 4/10
He was miserable today and not his usual self. He didn’t charge at defenders and provided nothing in the attack.
CF: Harry Kane – 5/10
Missed so many chances in the second half and Burnley’s defence did so well to prevent him on some occasions. Not being able to score after coming near in two consecutive games must be frustrating for him.
