Chelsea showed resilience and excellent fighting spirit to bounce back from their shock loss at the hands of Burnley to defeat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 at Wembley today.
Below are the Spurs players rated from this fixture.
Hugo Lloris: 4
Disastrous goalkeeping by the Frenchman to concede in closing minutes as Marcos Alonso’s strike went under his body and ended up in the back of the net. Looked nervy with his outings as well. An evening to forget for the veteran custodian.
Eric Dier: 6.5
Completed plenty of passes, pulled off a few tackles, clearances and blocks to avoid further damage. Was taken off and replaced by Heung-Min Son to bolster the attack.
Toby Alderweireld: 6.5
Was excellent with his long balls, worked hard to link up with the midfield to constitute attacking movements from the back.
Jan Vertonghen: 7
Kept on making forward runs and whipped in a few crosses and long balls for the attackers.
Kieran Trippier: 6
Worked hard, kept on making forwards runs to help his attackers. But most of his deliveries lacked accuracy. Was replaced by Vincent Janssen in the closing seconds.
Victor Wanyama: 6.5
Was combative in midfield. Dealt well against Bakayoko and Kante. But made a howler by losing possession in the closing minutes that was eventually converted into a goal by Marcos Alonso.
Moussa Dembele: 7
Held possession in midfield. Worked hard to win the ball in the middle of the park and impressed with his passing and pressing skills.
Ben Davies: 6.5
Tried to contribute in attack, but helped his defence when required. Delivered a few crosses and key passes. Was replaced by Moussa Sissoko late in the second half.
Dele Alli: 7
Impressed with his physicality, did well to earn a free-kick which eventually led the hosts to find an equalizer.
Christian Eriksen: 7
Kept on trying to find Kane and Alli with his imposing range of passing. Left frustrated by rigid Chelsea back-line. His free-kick was diverted by substitute Batshuayi into his own net.
Harry Kane: 6.5
‘August curse’ continues for the English hitman. Was unlucky once more as his strike hit the woodwork like his previous outing against Newcastle United.
Substitutes
Heung-Min Son: 5
Was brought in by Pochettino to bolster the attack and alter the scoreline. The South Korean, however, failed to make any noteworthy contribution.
Moussa Sissoko: 5
Played a few passes but lost the duels and could not help his side grab a result.
Vincent Janssen: NA
Played too little to warrant a rating.
