Stoke City did not have a good campaign in their last season in the Premier League as they had to finish 13th in the league table. In their very first match against Everton this season, things did not look to take a positive turn for them, as the Potters were beaten by 1-0, courtesy a perfectly timed header from the England captain and comeback hero Wayne Rooney, which also marked the 199th goal of his career.
The Potters are clearly lacking the edge in their attack that can take them past their opponents, which might be a real detriment for them in the forthcoming days, as the challenges are going to get much tougher. This has caused the man in charge at the Bet365 Stadium, Mark Hughes, to try and make the most of the remaining days of the summer transfer market and bring in someone who can spearhead the attack for his side in the remaining fixtures of the season.
The Welshman has got his eyes on a number of options, among whom Dutch striker Vincent Janssen is right on the top of the list. The Tottenham marksman has been one of the most highly rated players from his days at Dutch Eredivisie club AZ Alkmaar but has not been able to achieve anything significant so far in the Premier League with the Spurs.
Having featured in 38 matches so far since his arrival at the North London club in 2016, Janssen has been able to notch up only six goals to show for his efforts. With their main striker Harry Kane in gallant form for the past two seasons, chances have been really difficult to come by for the Dutchman.
Besides, brilliant display of skills by the Korean forward Heung Min Son and English sensation Dele Alli has pushed him further down the pecking order, and the 23-year-old might be looking to make a move out of his present club and head towards another outfit, preferably in the Premier League.
The Potters are looking to make full use of this opportunity and are more than interested in getting the Dutchman in their team for this season before the transfer window closes. The 23-year-old striker has a contract with the Spurs that entitles him to stay back at the North London outfit till 2020. However, that might not be a detriment for Stoke City to make a bid for the Dutch international and bag him for the next season to give their attack that sharp edge that has been lacking.
