Scottish Premiership outfit, Rangers have been thoroughly busy this summer in order to beef up their arsenal with quality recruitments and have made plenty of signings as well. Of course the newcomers took their time to get together as a unit, but lately, they have started to hit the right chords, which was evident from their two wins on the trot against Watford and Sheffield Wednesday in their pre-season friendly games.
However, Pedro Caixinha is far from being a satisfied man and is apparently vouching for one more midfielder and as per one of the latest reports by Daily Mail, Caixinha is interested to lure Wigan Athletic’s Max Power to Ibrox Stadium this summer. Power has been overlooked by manager Paul Cook and he could be allowed to leave DW Stadium for £500,000 and apart from Rangers, Cardiff City and Sheffield Wednesday have also put the 24-year-old on their radar.
Power emerged through the youth ranks of Tranmere Rovers and went on to represent their senior side. The Latics brought him to their ranks a couple of seasons ago and despite their relegation to League One, the midfielder was one of their silver linings last season. He did show his high calibre and in order to ply his trade in a league of higher stature, Power might himself be keen to make a move and thus, he can be prised out of Wigan Athletic by the Glasgow based club.
The Englishman is a box-to-box midfielder with tremendous energy and is a decent passer of the ball. In 41 appearances last season in the Championship, Power accumulated 6 assists and created 37 chances and no wonder some clubs of notable reputation are lining up to make him put his signature on the dotted line. He is a calm and composed package, holds the ball really well and is a good passer of the ball and despite his relatively young age, he has shown immense maturity and grit.
Rangers already have the likes of Jordan Rossiter, Niko Kranjcar, Jason Holt, Graham Dorrans, Carlos Pena and Ryan Jack at his disposal and thus, whether another midfielder is really the call of the hour is a debatable matter. Though it is up to the former Al-Gharafa boss to decide whether to really go for him, getting someone like Power for the price that has been put on his collar could well be a bargain in favour of the Teddy Bears.
