Scottish Premiership outfit, Rangers, have been ultra-active this summer in order to considerably beef up their squad. Under the guardianship of Pedro Caixinha, the Gers have made some shrewd additions, with the likes of Bruno Alves, Alfredo Morelos, Daniel Candeias, Ryan Jack and Carlos Pena making a move to the Ibrox Stadium.
It was implied that the newcomers would take some time to settle and get together as a unit, and the Glasgow giants haven’t really registered a scintillating start to their new campaign. Rangers defeated Motherwell in the opening fixture of the Scottish top flight, which was followed by their defeat at the hands of Hibernian and a goalless stalemate against Heart of Midlothian.
A couple of days ago, Manchester City’s promising winger Aaron Nemane made a move to the ranks of Caixinha, thanks to the efforts put forth by their director of football, Mark Allen. Allen was associated with the youth setup of the blue half of Manchester and is an admirer of Nemane, and no wonder he facilitated a loan move for ensuring that all the three parties involved derive dividends from the same.
However, with the incoming of the 19-year-old, it could mean that Rangers would accept defeat in their pursuit of Hearts’ sensation Jamie Walker. Walker has been one of the most sought after players by the Teddy Bears owing to his fine performances last season which made the former Al-Gharafa boss put him on his radar.
Rangers actually wanted to chalk out a deal and had put forth three bids in order to sign the 24-year-old. However, the Jambos were and still are reluctant to strike him off their books for anything short of £1million. The Light Blues, on the other hand, weren’t in support of such a valuation for a player whose contract expires at the end of this season.
As a result, a deal couldn’t materialize between both these clubs and arguably, Rangers might regret not having brought him to their side when it was evident that they could have with the requisite bid. Walker is a player who has shown his calibre with the Jam Tarts for a good amount of time and is well acclimatized with how things work out in the Scottish club competitions.
Rangers are now relying on Nemane to hit the ground up and running, but considering the fact that he is an unknown commodity in Scotland coupled with the obvious perception that Walker could have been the final piece of Caixinha’s jigsaw, Rangers might see this as a lost opportunity, a few months down the line, if the Manchester City loanee fails to live up to the expectations.
