It was supposed to be a fresh start for West Ham United as the Hammers broke the bank to accumulate a squad capable of challenging for the Top 8 but despite all the efforts they crashed to a harrowing defeat to Manchester United as the Red Devils pumped in four goals past Joe Hart.
The Hammers will travel to the South Coast as they entertain Southampton in their second match in the Premier League. New signings Pablo Zabaleta, Marko Arnautovic, Javier Hernandez and Joe Hart failed to make a mark as West Ham seemed to have failed in rectifying their mistakes of last season.
However, Bilic would be hoping to turn the tide when they face Southampton.
Predicted 4-2-3-1 West Ham United Lineup Against Southampton
Defence
Despite conceding 4 goals, Joe Hart is expected to remain a trustworthy player for Bilic. The English international had a dreadful start to his Hammers career as United got past him four times to score at a canter. He should have been able to get a hand to Paul Pogba’s shot from distance and will have to come up with a better display as the Saints have a pretty envious attacking lineup.
Bilic is set to trust the combative pair of Angelo Ogbonna and Winston Reid in the Hammers backline once again.
The only tweak could be Aaron Creswell’s return to the starting lineup. Arthur Masuaku had a torrid time dealing with the United attackers and he was particularly responsible for the second goal as Lukaku headed home with sheer ease.
Pablo Zabaleta should start in the right back position.
Midfield
Bilic won’t change much in the midfield and would rely on the two man midfield setup he opted for in the last game. Mark Noble and Pedro Obiang will have the responsibility to keep the midfield mobile. Hammers veteran Noble particularly needs to be a bit more enthusiastic as Bilic would be hoping for a positive result.
Attack
The unavailability of Manuel Lanzini means another start for youngster Edimilson Fernandes. The 21-year-old showed some promise which could be used by the gaffer in this long run.
Marko Arnautovic is expected to make his second start for the Hammers. The Austrian international failed to justify his price tag as he hardly troubled the United defenders.
Andre Ayew is certain to start on the right flank.
New entrant Javier Hernandez would be hoping to hit the target this time as he will have the task to lead the Hammers attack.
