Hull City would be hoping to start afresh under their new gaffer Leonid Slutsky. The Tigers had a pretty efficient pre-season and would be hoping to have a good start to their Championship season. They have a very difficult task cut out against Aston Villa and Slutsky would try to grind out a positive result.
Predicted 4-2-3-1 Hull City Lineup Against AstonVilla
Defence
Leonid Slutsky is expected to reward Allan McGregor with a starting place in the opening game. The departure of Eldin Jakupovic and injury to David Marshall will pave the way for the veteran keeper. The 35-year-old boasts plenty of experience in the Championship and Slutsky would rely a lot on him.
Michael Hector could make his Hull debut against Aston Villa. The defender is currently on loan from Chelsea and is likely to be given the responsibility to marshal the Tigers’ backline. He started in the 3-3 draw against Ajax and his performances should be enough to earn his first call up in a Hull jersey.
Veteran defender Michael Dawson is set to lead the team, from the centre of defence. He has often faced vulnerabilities for his lack of pace but when it comes to experience, there is no other player in the team who could match his level.
Ola Aina is expected to feature in the side but there is confusion regarding his position in the starting lineup. Currently, The Tigers don’t have any options in the left back section so the gaffer might give it a try to start the player on the left-hand side.
Given the current scenario, Slutsky would find it hard to pick a player for the right back position and as of now, Brian Lenihan is expected to feature.
Midfield
The departure of Tom Huddlestone was a big blow to them. The midfielder left the club for Derby County as they triggered his release clause. Hull spent a brief portion of their transfer kitty to bring Kevin Stewart in a bid to replace Huddlestone. Stewart will have the responsibility to act as a cover for City’s backline and has to ensure the shape remains intact.
Clucas could prove to be City’s trump card this season. He has already proven his class last season and his partnership with Stewart in the middle of the park could be the key factor this season.
Attack
Markus Henriksen will line up behind the striker and conduct the play from a withdrawn No.10 role.
Jarrod Bowen has impressed in the preseason and Slutsky is set to reward him by giving him a chance to prove his worth.
Fraizer Campbell should start on the left-hand side.
Abel Hernandez has been facing the challenge to be fit against time and he is expected to lead the line for the Tigers.
