Manchester United were given a huge boost in the pursuit of one of their top priority transfer target recently. The Red Devils are desperate for a full-back and were looking at the versatile AS Monaco star Fabinho, who could solve a couple of problems at the club, and AS Monaco boss Leonardo Jardim has now revealed that he might not be able to keep the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Thomas Lemar and Fabinho at the club this summer.
Also wanted by Arsenal, Fabinho is one of the many stars that are wanted by top clubs around Europe and Manchester United might just be able to complete their transfer business for the summer if they are able to land him before the deadline day.
So it does not come as a surprise that Manchester United have strengthened their pursuit of the 23-year old. According to English news outfit Sun, Jose Mourinho has personally asked Ed Woodward to complete a deal for the Brazilian ace who could cost them up to £40m this summer. So is Fabinho a decent option for Manchester United?
A product of the Fluminense Academy, Fabinho only tasted first team football for the first time with Real Madrid B and though he failed to establish himself in the senior squad, he managed to impress with his stints on loan at the Stade Louis II, and after two long seasons on loan in France, he completed a permanent move to the club in 2015.
Ever since, he has established himself as the first choice fullback for the Ligue 1 outfit, making his international debut and standing as one of the most versatile and exciting players up for grabs in Europe.
As comfortable at right back as he is in the middle of the park, Fabinho is a technically gifted player with a smart head on his shoulders. Strong and agile, the 23-year old loves to keep hold of the ball under pressure while his dribbling and passing abilities help him evade danger without much fuss.
He may not be the quickest around but is definitely hard to catch but what makes him even more attractive is his ability to sit back, defend and control the tempo of the game. A great reader of the opposition’s moves, Fabinho loves to stay a step ahead and this will attract Jose Mourinho even more.
The Red Devils are expected to use Nemanja Matic as their first choice CDM this season while Antonio Valencia is expected to play at right back in the starting XI. Fabinho is an upgrade on both those players and is a signing they must complete at any cost.
