Manchester United have started their pursuit of glory in the 2017/18 Premier League season with a thumping win over West Ham United, scoring four goals in the match. While Romelu Lukaku starred with a brace to his name, the flamboyant forward Anthony Martial scored one after coming off the bench and Paul Pogba added a fourth to the scoreline with a long range stunner finding the back of the net to hand the Red Devils their first win of the season.
The former Premier League champions, who went on to finish the last season at a lowly sixth position, are looking good and have clinched the first position at the end of the first matchweek. The Red Devils are looking forward to maintaining their lead in the forthcoming days and are determined to finish in the top four in the league table to bring back their glory days in the new season.
A number of players have been brought into the side during the transfer window to strengthen the squad and the results have already started to show for Manchester United. However, they are not looking to curb their interest in new players as their Portuguese gaffer, Jose Mourinho, is looking forward to land another player at Old Trafford in the form Stefan De Vrij from the Italian outfit Lazio.
The centre back, who has been one of the most highly regarded players throughout the last few seasons since his arrival at the club in 2014, is being eyed by a number of clubs from all over Europe including Manchester United. However, his current possessors Lazio have denied listening to any offers for the defender, who has only one more year left on his contract to stay at the Stadio Olimpico.
The Red Devils faced a number of problems in the last season in their defensive composition, with almost all of their defenders going through an injury scare and missing crucial encounters throughout the term. Mourinho, therefore, is in no mood to take any chances with his defence and is willing to increase his squad depth by bringing in a quality player like the Dutch defender.
The 25-year-old is known for his physical presence in the heart of the defence and is very effective in fending off the opposition attacks. He also has the ability to stabilise the back line and see off crisis situations to keep his team in advantage and can be a crucial addition to the defence of the Red Devils in the new season.
