Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United faced their first defeat in a cup final on Tuesday as they were outplayed by Champions League winners Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup. The loss will surely give Mourinho an idea on what his side needs before the start of the season and it does not come as a surprise that he is still looking to add a few players to his squad this summer.
The Red Devils were expected to spend big on improving their backline but Victor Lindelof is the only addition to the defensive unit of the squad at Old Trafford. United might want to look at a full-back or two this summer and Tottenham Hotspur’s Danny Rose is once again back on the radar of the Europa League winners this summer.
According to reports, Chelsea and Manchester United are both interested in the signature of the English full-back but his parent club Tottenham Hotspur are ready to reject any bids for his services.
Having already lost their first choice right back in Kyle Walker, Spurs will want to keep the core of the squad at the club beyond this transfer window but Danny Rose is now attracting loads of interest from rival clubs.
The first choice left-back for club and country at the moment, Rose picked up an injury last season that kept him out of the last few months of the campaign but he is expected to make a comeback this season into the first team.
Known for his mesmerizing dribbling, Rose is a dynamic player who can not only create chances in attack but is also adept at sitting back and shutting shop when needed. Strong and agile, Rose is smart with his hold up play. He can cross or cut in with equal precision and the only thing he needs to work on is his lack of concentration for long periods.
At 27, Rose has 12 international appearances for the Three Lions and 135 Premier League appearances and is easily one of the best left-backs, not just in England but also in Europe. He is irreplaceable, at least at this time in the window and it will take some negotiating for Spurs to let him leave.
The Red Devils are using the likes of Matteo Darmian, Marcos Rojo, Daley Blind or Luke Shaw at left-back next season and Rose is a genuine upgrade on all those names. Signing Rose might allow United to sell one of those names and might give English star Luke Shaw more time to establish himself at the highest level. But can United lure Rose this summer?
