Manchester United are easily one of the strongest outfits in England at the moment but Jose Mourinho, who has already spent over £150m on new recruits this summer, is still active in the transfer market, looking for players who can further improve the side’s chances to win trophies this season.
He has been linked with some of the most exciting players in Europe at the moment and one player extensively linked with a move to Old Trafford is Andre Gomes.
According to a report from the TuttoSport, the Portuguese midfielder wants to quit the Camp Nou due to lack of regular playing time after the Spanish giants signed Paulinho earlier this summer. The Catalan giants are also looking at Jean Michael Seri as an option and the report claims that Gomes will surely quit the club before the deadline day.
Juventus are one of the many suitors who are desperate for him but Manchester United will make a move for him in the upcoming days. With the player wanting out, he is not expected to cost too much so should United look at Gomes as an option?
Having played for the academies at Porto and Benfica, Gomes made his debut in senior football in 2012 but spent just two seasons in his home country before being snapped up by Valencia, first on loan and then on a permanent basis. He joined the former La Liga champions at the start of the previous season but failed to establish himself in the first team under Luis Enrique.
He is not expected to play a huge role under Ernesto Valverde either and is ready to quit the club and will add another option in midfield for the Red Devils.
Known for his smart passing and ability to create chances in the final third, the 24-year old is a hard-working central midfielder, who loves to spend time in the attacking third. His dribbling and control of the ball make him hard to mark while his understanding of the game allows him to make interceptions in dangerous areas of the field.
With 25 international appearances, 93 La Liga appearances and 16 Champions League appearances, he is an established star and will complete Manchester United’s midfield.
The likes of Ander Herrera, Marouane Fellaini and Michael Carrick are all backup options for Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba, who are expected to be the first choice midfield duo this season. Gomes will add some dynamism to this lineup and will give Mourinho an option when chasing games.
It is hard to see him walk into the first team at Old Trafford but should Manchester United get him anyway?
