Manchester United managed to post yet another victory this weekend as they go into the first international break of the season with three victories under their belt. They have also kept three clean sheets in the process and are easily the most in-form team in the competition at the moment.
Jose Mourinho made a few superb additions to his squad in the off season as he bought in the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Victor Lindelof and Nemanja Matic to the club this summer while also getting Zlatan Ibrahimovic to sign a new contract. This will make United one of the strongest squads in the competition but have they done enough to lift the league title?
The Portuguese manager is still looking for additions before the deadline day but the given the start his side has had to the competition, it is quite clear that they are one of the favourites to go all the way this season. But are they firm favourites? Will they run away with it?
In Lukaku, Mourinho has added one of the most prolific goal scorers in England and the Belgian’s start to the campaign only shows that he will score regularly for the club. He may struggle in unfamiliar territory in Europe but in the Premier League, he is right up there with the best and will bail United out in front of goal consistently.
In Nemanja Matic, the Red Devils have the perfect CDM for Mourinho’s style of play and we have already seen the effect he has on the squad, allowing Paul Pogba to roam freely, also pushing Ander Herrera to the bench, adding depth to the squad.
Lindelof may take time to establish himself in the first team but will surely have his say on the squad later in the season. Zlatan is also expected to come back into the action in the second half of the season, which will help the Red Devils get through the jam packed English schedule after the turn of the year.
They have a balanced squad and to add it, the form of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Eric Bailly and Anthony Martial will make United the team to beat this season. Their defence was solid last season and they have improved in front of goal, making them a much stronger outfit, making them favourites to land the league title.
They are yet to face a team from the top half of the table from the previous season but United have shown that they are a complete squad and are genuine contenders for the title. However, with just three games gone, they will have to show consistency in their game to go all the way. Do you think Mourinho can lift the league title in his second season at a club, yet again?
