Manchester City have started their campaign in a consistent way, having won against the newcomers Brighton & Hove Albion in their first match of the Premier League season with their next encounter against Everton ending in a hard fought draw. The Citizens are looking to dish out a good performance this season, after having a fairly disappointing season in the last term, which saw them winning no silverware.
Their current man in charge at the Etihad Stadium, Pep Guardiola, who has been sceptical about his side’s performance in the last season, especially in the defensive area, is looking to make amends for the mistakes and bring in a new player who can give solidity to the backline this season. Currently, he is having his eyes fixed on the Middlesbrough centre back Ben Gibson, who performed exceptionally well in his side’s last campaign in the Premier League but was unable to save them from getting relegated.
The 24-year-old has been able to attract a number of clubs from the Premier League as well the Championship, who are willing to get him in their team for the new season and provide strength to the side. However, it seems that the former Premier League champions are the ones who are leading the race to bag the player for the new season and are looking to launch a bid of £20million to bag the player from his current side.
Manchester City defenders have been inconsistent in the last season, which has been a reason of concern for their Spanish manager and he is looking to bring in someone who has proved himself at the highest level in the recent seasons. The inclusion of Ben Gibson is supposed to give that much-needed stability to the backline and a reliable defender to the team.
Gibson has played for a major chunk of his career with Middlesbrough and tried his level best as the captain of the side to keep them back in the top flight. However, the lack of goals from their strikers let them down and despite a good defensive display, Middlesbrough were relegated from the top flight.
It will undoubtedly be a good move for the player to go back to the top flight with one of the top teams in not only the Premier League but also in the whole of Europe. Manchester City will also be benefitted from the move and will be able to have a very dependable player in the heart of their defence for the rest of the season and also for the forthcoming days.
