Manchester City are one of the strongest squads in England as well as in Europe at the moment as Pep Guardiola has yet again spent over €200m on his summer recruits this year. The manager is still not happy with the options at his disposal and has been looking to add further quality to his first team before the deadline day.
This has seen him linked with some of the finest stars in Europe and one player he is now looking to bring to England is Aaron Martin from Espanyol.
According to reports from the Sun, Manchester City are now interested in the Spanish ace as they look to add yet another fullback to their squad this summer. The likes of Kyle Walker, Danilo and Benjamin Mendy have already signed for the club and the Espanyol left-back will be the fourth full-back to move to the club this summer if the deal goes through.
A product of the academy at Espanyol, the 20-year old broke into the senior side just last year and his impressive performances saw him cement a place in the first team last season. He has so far made 31 La Liga appearances and has shown great potential in the Spanish domestic league.
Known for his defensive stability, Martin is a left-footed left-back who loves to sit back and soak up the pressure. With decent technical ability and strength in hold up play, the youngster has tremendous ball control and is more than capable of creating chances in the final third.
He makes a number of interceptions in every game and is consistently solid at the back while his passing is what will attract Pep Guardiola at Manchester City. At just 20, he is still at the start of his career and learning the game and will surely find it hard to reject a chance to play under Pep Guardiola, one of the most respected managers in world football.
Despite 3 fullbacks coming in, there is still a clear need of another left back as Pep would not want a makeshift option in the event of an injury to one of his first choice players.
This situation has set in some panic at the club who do not want to use a makeshift full-back, having spent over £100m on players for that role this summer. Martin will not walk into the first team at the Etihad but he has enough potential to turn into a star and if they are able to sign him, City will have solved their full-back problems for years to come. But is the 20-year old the right man for the club?
