The future of Ross Barkley could be sorted in the coming few days. The English midfielder has been involved in a tug of war and if reports are to be believed, Manchester City have emerged as the newest entrant in the race to land the youngster.
Barkley’s future is currently in jeopardy and a clutch of clubs have been chasing him with Tottenham Hotspur leading the race. Mauricio Pochettino’s admiration for the midfielder is not new and the Argentine gaffer could invest a large portion of his transfer kitty in bringing the player to North London.
Although the player is in the last year of his contract, Everton are pretty confident they can fetch in the tune of £50m for the player. Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is reluctant to spend so much for a player who is currently recuperating from a groin injury.
The Sky Blues already have enough armoury in their ranks and the addition of another midfielder might not be in the fray as of now. But if Everton agree to lower their asking price, City are ready to take a chance.
The English international is one of the most exciting players in the Premier League and Pep Guardiola might take a look at a potential move for the Englishman. Though David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne are accomplished in their respective positions, the arrival of Barkley would ease the pressure off them.
Ronald Koeman has already stated the midfielder is leaving 100% and would love to cash in on the player. Everton have already invested a lot of money so far so Barkley’s departure won’t have much of an impact on their plans.
Barkley has already rejected a new offer from the Toffees but he has already been asked by Spurs to lower his wage demands in order for a move to materialise.
When it comes to wage structure, Daniel Levy has set a particular benchmark for all the players and he is not ready to break it for any particular player. Man City have the funds to afford his wages and the idea to work under Guardiola might tempt him.
City already have Yaya Toure and Fernandinho in their side but they are on the wrong side of their thirties and Guardiola could try Barkley in a much deeper role.
Mauricio Pochettino has already hinted that he will experiment with the player and the City manager could emulate the same at the Etihad Stadium.
