After months of speculations and rumours, Manchester City have reportedly finally made a direct contact with Arsenal over a deal for Alexis Sanchez and are willing to offer their winger Raheem Sterling in return plus cash for the deal. However, sources have also claimed that Sergio Aguero could be a part of the deal as well with fans demanding the Argentine be made available instead of Sterling.
Despite scoring two late goals to save City from dropping points in the last two Premier League games, Sterling’s price has largely plummeted over the past few seasons which explains Pep Guardiola’s willingness to offer a significant amount of cash along with him. However, if Arsenal are to part ways with their best player, it should be a like for like replacement.
Fortunately, it would be easier for Guardiola to leave Aguero given the sour relationship the striker has with the manager, and Arsene Wenger just might change his stance about letting Sanchez leave this summer. Aguero has been City’s all-time top scorer in the Premier League, who helped them lift the trophy twice since his arrival, and him pairing up with Alexandre Lacazette will be a sight to behold.
While Aguero is unlikely to take the wide role on the left that Sanchez excels in, he would be a brilliant striking option with his unparalleled finesse from in and around the box. Given the current situation, however, Wenger remains the biggest culprit with nothing going his way and one wouldn’t keep high hopes even if Aguero did come to the Emirates.
But, if Arsenal were to let Sanchez leave and get value for it this summer instead of giving him up next summer, Aguero will be the best option the Gunners have now. Manchester City have narrowly escaped two games against Everton and Bournemouth of late stating that despite having a star-studded side, they are far from the perfect squad.
Guardiola has been a long-term admirer of the versatility of Sanchez in the attacking third and he will have to decide how much would he be willing to compromise to secure the Chilean’s services. Aguero’s scoring abilities remain undeniable and before Guardiola’s total football took over City, the Argentine was the striker every side desired.
His pace on the ball and nose for goal helped him score a whopping 169 goals and 51 assists in his six-year stint with the Manchester outfit. Even in his poorest season last term, Aguero ended up scoring 20 goals.
