Liverpool have accelerated their search for some significant addition in their midfield and according to reports, they might just have found a good fit in Bayern Munich’s want way midfielder Renato Sanches. The Portuguese wonder kid has fallen from grace since last year and will be available on a temporary move or permanent, whichever deems suitable for the clubs.
Given Liverpool’s recent buy of Naby Keita, the Reds could really do with a temporary move for Sanches at the moment as the Guinean joins next summer. Jurgen Klopp’s set-up of three-man midfield will always require more players in that position and given the poor form of Sanches, he wouldn’t mind starting on the bench and work his way into the first team.
After the retirement of Xabi Alonso, Sanches was touted by many to take his place in the central midfield position. But, Bayern’s decision to get in James Rodriguez from Real Madrid on loan with arrangements to make it permanent at the end of the season means the 19-year-old’s time is almost up at Allianz Arena.
And manager Carlo Ancelotti had more than hinted before the start of the season that he doesn’t see the player in his immediate plans. He had said, “At this time, he’s training with us. We have to make a decision. A move could be a possibility but there is also a chance he could stay with us for the season.”
Bayern Munich had to splurge a staggering amount of £30 million to land him in 2016 when they beat Premier League giants Manchester United to secure his services. And Sanches could manage 25 appearances in all competitions last season, in which there were only six starts. Unfortunately, neither could he score nor assist in any of them.
Liverpool will be wary of it if they decide to get him, as his wages will surely be hefty, and they have to do it fast as the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and AS Monaco are all interested in him. However, Sanches’ quality remains unquestionable as his vision and maturity are way beyond his nascent age and the player would be a huge addition to any side.
Born and brought up in Portugal’s famous Sporting Lisbon, he was one of the hottest prospects in the summer of 2016 as he came to the fore following back to back performances with his club first and then with Portugal in the 2016 Euro campaign. He even won the Golden Boy award for the year then and was also voted the best young player in the Euros.
His strong attributes include the ability to pass extremely well and hold the ball in tight situations. He could be an interesting addition for the Reds at all costs and just the man they need at the moment.
