Liverpool have been reportedly told by Borussia Dortmund that they can only get Emre Mor on a permanent basis following their weeks of pursuit for the Turkish international. The young winger has been more of a raw talent in Germany so far forcing Jurgen Klopp to have him on a trial basis first before investing in him, but it doesn’t seem to be happening their way.
The need for yet another winger is questioned by and one and all as Liverpool eye for a forward despite having over five attackers in the squad already. The arrival of Mohamed Salah and Dominic Solanke has already strengthened the existing bunch of forwards who had managed to score 78 goals last season. And the duo’s arrival means Klopp would surely struggle to pick his first squad.
Klopp’s enthusiasm with attacking play is well known, but the pursuit of Mor has been quite confusing to many. The right winger will have competition from Sadio Mane and Salah to make it to the first team and there is hardly any chance he would want to change clubs just to serve as a backup. After the sale of Daniel Sturridge was cancelled by the club as they realised it would be expensive to find his replacement, Mor seems vague in Klopp’s plans.
Liverpool’s initial bid to have him temporarily was still understood as the 20-year-old had found little success at Dortmund with Thomas Tuchel handing him only 12 Bundesliga games to show his quality. His failure was quite obvious as he could manage only one goal and three assists in them, but not before showing some raw pace and skills.
His qualities could be well moulded by Jurgen Klopp, which remains undeniable but the Reds are unlikely to match the asking price of £18million that Dortmund are asking for him. On top of that, Liverpool are expected to face stiff competition from Turkish giants Fenerbahce, who want him on a similar basis, La Liga sides Celta de Vigo and Real Sociedad, and Premier League side Southampton back home.
The youth product of Denmark club Brönshöj Boldklub, Mor’s progress could be credited to his playing days with Lyngby BK, where he broke the ranks. He was sold to FC Nordsjaelland in 2015, which was first big move and he took the opportunities with both hands. He was a star in no time as he managed to get 13 senior games under his belt in the Superligaen before Dortmund came calling last summer.
