According to reports, Liverpool are likely to add yet another striker to their squad with Brazilian international Luan sitting at the top of their priority list. The Gremio centre forward has come to the fore owing to sizzling skills and sublime goal scoring abilities in the Brazilian league with numerous European clubs queueing up to secure his services.
Despite their defence being one of the weakest among the top six sides competing in the Premier League, Jurgen Klopp looks quite convinced of their abilities to hold off their opponents easily.
Apart from Robertson, the Reds have brought in a centre forward Dominic Solanke from Chelsea and winger Mohamed Salah from Serie A side AS Roma. With the speculations of Phillipe Coutinho moving to Barcelona getting more concrete with every passing week, Liverpool are expected to see another addition, a world class one, before the summer transfer window closes in three weeks’ time.
Liverpool already have the likes of Roberto Firmino, Divock Origi and Daniel Sturridge fighting for that role in the centre forward position and another addition of Luan seems foolish. Although the 24-year-old can play on the flanks, especially on the left wing from where he has pulled strings perfectly on many occasions.
Gremio vice-president Odorico Roman has revealed that the club has received offers for their star players but Liverpool are yet to make one. He said, “I do not know of any other proposal. We had two firm approaches, from Sampdoria and Spartak. They were made, but Luan remains as a Gremio player at the moment.”
It is always difficult to leave one of the star players after the season has started and Liverpool would know it well given the Coutinho saga still continues. The player, however, has been quite vocal about his thoughts and hasn’t ruled out a move away from the club yet.
Speaking to media after Gremio’s 2-1 victory over Godoy Cruz, Luan said, “I will decide soon. My thoughts are still on Gremio. I saw people on social media asking me to stay. I know of the proposal [from Spartak] but we have to decide. On Thursday, I’ll speak more calmly and give you the answer.”
The 24-year-old has managed to score 12 goals in 23 games for Gremio this season so far and is currently in the last season of his contract which runs until June next year. Although 180cm, Luan doesn’t excel in aerial duels, he is a complete forward otherwise. He is deft in finishing, long shots, passing, through balls, dribbling, key passes and everything else.
