After a scrap into the Champions League on the final day of the previous campaign, Liverpool’s manager Jurgen Klopp is now busy trying to add some quality players to his squad this summer. The Reds have failed to land two of their top transfer targets for the first team this season but Klopp is still looking for players who can help them in the long run.
He is keeping a keen eye on first team stars who he can bring to Anfield but is also determined to bring some young talents as well. He has already spent on Dominic Solanke to add to his strike force and though the ban on Academy transfers restricts the club from signings any players for their academy, Klopp is still scouting some of the finest youngsters in the English domestic circuit.
The latest name linked with a move to the club is Connor Simpson. Born and brought up in Guisborough, England, 17-year old Connor Simpson is touted to be the next big thing in England. Currently playing for Hartlepool United, Simpson only joined the academy at Hartlepool this year and has already made a couple of appearances for the senior side.
He made his debut in a 1-0 defeat to Cheltenham but showed enough promise for clubs in the top flight to look at him as a potential addition. The Sunday People, a trusted English news website claims that Liverpool are the front runners for his signature alongside Newcastle United and both Rafa Benitez and Jurgen Klopp are understood to have sent scouts repeatedly to keep an eye on him.
Still 17, Simpson is dubbed the ‘next Andy Carroll’ thanks to his frame and robust play. Known for his strength, aerial ability and ability to find the back of the net on a consistent basis, Simpson is a striker who loves to lead the attack for his side as a target man.
At his age, he has already learnt the art of hold up play and though he will improve his strength in years to come, is already a player who can trouble the best of the defenders in the domestic circuit in England.
He is yet to sign a professional deal at the Victoria ground and could be available to add to the academy but that is not an option for Liverpool. The Reds are banned from adding talents to their academy for a year and can only get Simpson to sign a deal after he turns 18. So it will be interesting to see if Klopp decides to convince him to stay at his current club for another year and sign a deal to move to Anfield.
