The summer transfer window is in its final hours now and the various teams are still in hot pursuit of jotting down deals which could benefit them. As per one of the latest reports, Premier League outfit Leicester City have put Bayer Leverkusen’s central defender Aleksandar Dragovic on their radar as a part of their late dash this summer. The Foxes are attempting to secure a season-long loan deal to add more resilience to their backline.
The Foxes haven’t had a good season so far in the English top flight, having collected merely 3 points from their first 3 outings. A team of their calibre must be inclined to secure a Champions League spot this season and in order to do the same, they need to ensure that they have a decent arsenal. So far, one of the loopholes that have emerged has been the lack of mettle in their defensive aspect. In order to tighten the screws, Craig Shakespeare has vouched a decent player in Dragovic.
Dragovic has emerged through the youth ranks of Austria Wien before being promoted to their senior side. Subsequently, he moved to two notable clubs in the shapes of FC Basel and Dynamo Kyiv before being snapped up by Bayer Leverkusen last summer. However, he has failed to impose a stamp of authority at the Germany based club and could manoeuvre merely 19 appearances last term and just 1 appearances so far this season.
The 26-year-old is a player who possesses truckloads of experience at the club level as well as with his national side, Austria. He belongs to the conservative brand of centre-backs as he checks his surroundings and provides cover to his teammates instead of marauding forward.
From what he has put on display so far in his career, he has proved himself to be an astute reader of the game who judges the offensive endeavours of his opposition well and thus takes proactive measures to nullify them.
The Austrian tackles and intercepts well and gets into the right position at the right time. Although he is not very good in the air, the astuteness of his man-marking ability hasn’t gone unnoticed and he is also very capable of picking out crisp passes from the back. English football would be a new endeavour for him, but with the experience and calibre he has, he is a player worth bringing to the King Power Stadium.
