On Saturday, Leeds United carved a brilliant result at the Stadium of Light as they clinched a 0-2 away win over Sunderland. The Whites have had a decent start to the new Championship season, having bagged a couple of wins and draws each. It was interesting to see Caleb Ekuban to lead the line for Leeds United up front at the absence of Chris Wood, as the New Zealand international has made his move to Premier League outfit Burnley.
Wood has emerged as one of the hottest properties from English second division after his scintillating form last season as he banged 30 goals in all competitions under the tutelage of Garry Monk. The Peacocks are preparing for life after him and handed Ekuban the chance to ply his trade as a striker.
However, the 22-year-old suffered an injury against Sunderland and with Wood close to making an exit, it goes without saying that Christiansen would have to bring some firepower to his arsenal in order to cater to the offensive needs of his side.
If one of the latest reports is to be believed, Christiansen has put Sheffield Wednesday’s centre-forward Jordan Rhodes on his radar. Rhodes emerged through the youth ranks of Barnsley and Ipswich Town, before being promoted to the senior side of the latter.
However, it was after his move to Huddersfield Town when he started to make a lot of buzz as he scored 87 goals in 148 games for the Terriers. Consequently, his move to Blackburn Rovers also proved to be successful as he found the back of the net on 85 occasions in 165 games.
The Scot the joined Middlesbrough in the January transfer window of 2016 and then was lured by the Owls to their ranks a year later, but failed to garner the adequate amount of success with either of these two clubs and is vouching for an outlet this summer.
Rhodes could be a decent addition to the West Yorkshire based outfit and could revive his career if he makes a move to the Elland Road. He is a clinical goal scorer who knows where the goal is and although he might not be an astute passer or someone with blistering pace, he is sound aerially and holds the ball well in the final third.
He tries to knit the game by drawing his teammates into the equation and no times his runs perfectly. Besides, he moves with the ball in a shrewd manner and the 27-year-old has volumes of experience under his belt which should come handy to a side like Leeds United who are in a dire need of a decent goal scorer with the Championship’s highest goal scorer no longer with the Whites.
