The Peacocks have made some quality signings like Pontus Jansson, Hadi Sacko, Samu Saiz and Vurnon Anita to beef up their squad but there seems to be something missing up front.
They sanctioned the sale of their star striker of last season in Chris Wood to Premier League outfit Burnley earlier this summer and are keen to sign a proven goal getter to enhance the quality of their attacking endeavours and to bring more competition for a place in the starting line-up.
Apparently, reports have emerged of late that Leeds United are willing to make a late dash to make Newcastle United’s striker Dwight Gayle sign on the dotted line before the summer transfer window ceases to exist. Gayle banged 23 goals during Newcastle United’s promotion campaign last season and showed his calibre to the football fraternity this season.
However, his recurring hamstring injury has been a major cause of concern for Rafael Benitez and he hasn’t started the new season in the Premier League in a fascinating manner, having failed to find the back of the net despite getting two starts. The Toon have slapped a price tag of £18million on his collar and thus, if Leeds United table the requisite bid, they might tempt the Geordies to strike him off their books.
Gayle is a proven goal scorer and is well familiar with English football, having plied his trade for another Premier League outfit in Crystal Palace as well. Besides, he helped his current employers in earning a promotion last season and his entry to the Elland Road club has the ingredients to be a galvanizing one.
