Leeds United might have to do without their English goalkeeper Robert Green for the rest of the season, as the veteran shot-stopper looks set to make a move to the Premier League with the new entrants Huddersfield Town after his signature. The 37-year-old arrived at the Elland Road club in 2016 and has been an important part of the team throughout his tenure with the Whites so far.
However, Leeds United have already found a suitable replacement for Green in the form of Andy Lonergan, who is currently playing for fellow Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers. The player has been one of the highly rated shot-stoppers in the second tier and completed a move to Elland Road earlier today.
Lonergan, however, had failed to make a good impression for his former club since his arrival at the Molineux Stadium in 2016. He had made only 15 appearances so far for the Wolves and it seems that the chance of redemption for him lies in Leeds United now.
Lonergan has rich experience of playing in the Championship and has starred for a number of sides in the form of Preston North End, Wycombe Wanderers and Fulham to mention a few. He played a staggering 228 games for Preston North End and has also been a part of the Leeds United lineup in the past, where he played 38 games and kept seven clean sheets to show for his efforts.
The 33-year-old is known for his excellent ball handling capabilities. He is also known for his ability to marshal the team well and stand fearlessly even in moments of crises. However, last season at the Molineux has been far from eventful for him and that might be the reason for him to agree to a move out of Wolves.
The move might be really beneficial for the Whites, as a player like Lonergan can use all his experience that he has got after featuring in 383 matches throughout his career so far to help them in the future.
Leeds United are determined not to repeat the mistakes from the last season that cost them a place in the playoffs as they could not finish the season in the top six and an entity like the English custodian can be a big influence on the team in the pursuit of their goals this term.
