Despite spending a lot this window, Everton have failed to impress so far this season. New owner Farhad Moshiri has left no stones unturned in trying to turn his club into a European superpower and has injected a lot of money into the squad.
Ronald Koeman almost had his wish list fulfilled this summer but the inability of his forwards has forced him to look again in the transfer market. According to reports, Koeman is keeping his options open and might make a loan move for Arsenal forward Lucas Perez.
The Dutch gaffer is on the lookout for a forward and Perez’s current condition at the club hasn’t gone unnoticed by him. The Spaniard has gone frustrated over his lack of game time and endured a nightmarish campaign in North London last season.
The Gunners’ decision to hand over the jersey no 9 to Alexandre Lacazette proved to be the last nail in the coffin for Perez as the forward asked his agent to speed up his transfer from the North London club.
A number of clubs including his former club Deportivo La Coruna have revived their interest in the player. The Spanish side are looking favourite at the moment, however, Newcastle United are the newest contender in this race.
Dwight Gayle’s future has been pretty uncertain as Fulham’s offer for the forward has been on the table for quite a while. Perez had very limited game time last season following a number of injuries but he still has the ability in him to shake up things at any top flight European club.
Arsene Wenger has handled this Perez situation very delicately and is unlikely to block his move. The striker has struggled for game-time last season as Arsene Wenger opted to start Alexis Sanchez in a more central role.
Perez managed just 11 appearances in the English top flight last term including two starts. Everton lost Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United and brought in Wayne Rooney and Sandro Ramirez but the gaffer wants more fire power up front as they are also scheduled to play in the Europa League group stage.
Perez arrived at the Emirates last summer for a fee in the region of £17m and the Toffees are looking for a short term loan option. Perez is likely to prefer a move back to Spain but Everton are trying their best to convince the player to stay in the Premier League for at least another season.
