According to the Liverpool Echo, Everton are still in contention of signing Borussia Dortmund attacker Emre Mor. A lot of other suitors are also reportedly keen to sign the Turkish youngster, including Liverpool, Inter Milan and Fenerbahce of Turkey. He was expected to sign for the Italians last week, but the move seemed to have stalled, therefore it could be a glorious opportunity for one of the Premier League teams to acquire the services of this much talked about Turkish sensation.
However, as a Borussia Dortmund fan myself, I really don’t see any reason for Emre Mor to find success in the Premier League. Therefore, the English clubs should really stop pursuing the 20-year-old attacker. But why is he not greatly suited to the Premier League?
First and foremost, Mor is an extremely selfish attacker, who is often reluctant to play passes in the final third. Although he is deemed as a great dribbler, he lacks the right kind of pace to zip through the opposition defenders.
The burst of pace, which players like Ousmane Dembele, Christian Pulisic so strongly possess, is clearly missing from Mor’s overall technique. He often tends to lay sideways, as the defenders approach him, and considering his lack of physical prowess, he can be easily outmuscled in the Premier League, more often than not.
He has bad decision making, which can often cost crucial clear cut chances. Not every coach will be proud of his prowess of duels either, given his very short stature. Mor lacks substantial game reading abilities like his teammates such as Christian Pulisic. He also has a terrible shooting accuracy, not being accurate enough to cause any trouble for the opposition.
New coach Peter Bosz, wanted to have a good look at the Turkish International ahead of the start of new season and rightfully, gave him a lot of chances to shine, in the friendlies.
However, bar from the match against Japanese side, Urawa Reds, where he scored two goals and assisted one, Mor has provided an absolute zero threat for the opponents’ defence. He was easily dealt with, even by third division sides.
As we all know, if one doesn’t have a great deal of physical trait about in his game, the player must always pertain a high rate of understanding of the game – and Emre Mor clearly doesn’t have one.
Even though most of the time, he is willing to press the nearest defender, there is no way, he would fit into a systematic pressing scheme, used by both Jurgen Klopp and Ronald Koeman.
Another thing worth mentioning is the fact that, Emre Mor lacks substantial experience at the top flight or even professional football for that matter. The youngster featured in only 12 matches for Dortmund last season, even prior to that, he made only a handful number of appearances in the Danish top flight. Therefore, there are a number of question marks, on whether will he be able to succeed in the Premier League.
However, there are some positives about his game too with one being, his ability to continuously keep the defence busy using his long dribbling runs, which might actually be useful for other attackers as it offers more freedom to the other players. But then again, the odds are very unlikely for Mor to perform in the Premier League or even to evolve as an outright star for his country. For now, he is just a YouTube player more than anything else.
