Arsenal were handed a walloping by Liverpool at Anfield as Wenger’s tenure as manager fell to a new low.
Below are the Arsenal players rated from the fixture.
Petr Cech: 6
Could have been more humiliated if he had not pulled off a point-blank save to deny Mohamed Salah in the early minutes. Made a few more crucial stops but could not resist the Reds from scoring 4 goals past him.
Rob Holding: 4
A nightmarish evening for the youngster. He struggled to control Sadio Mane throughout the game, was troubled by Mohamed Salah in the closing minutes. Should have marked Roberto Firmino in Liverpool’s first goal. Was at fault once more while Sadio Mane scored the second of the game.
Laurent Koscielny: 5.5
The veteran Frenchman returned after serving a three-game ban but could not help his side from conceding four goals. Looked worn out in closing minutes which led Daniel Sturridge to score from a free header.
Nacho Monreal: 4.5
Was dispossessed by Salah high up the pitch as he could not cope up with his pace. Struggled against Liverpool’s lethal attacking force.
Hector Bellerin: 4
Started the game as a left wing-back but was well contained by Joe Gomez. Made a howler after failing to control the ball properly as Salah snatched it from him and eventually finished it into the back of the net. Was switched to his usual right back slot in the second half.
Granit Xhaka: 5
Did nothing except a few clumsy tackles and was bullied by Emre Can throughout the game. Was trying hard to win possession in midfield in the second half but failed to do anything impressive.
Aaron Ramsey: 3.5
Disastrous display by the Welshman as failed to find his feet in front of Gini Wijnaldum and could not hold the ball in midfield. Was taken off at half-time to be replaced by Francis Coquelin.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain: 5
He started the game at right wing-back but was well contained by Alberto Moreno. Lost possession following Liverpool’s pressure high up the pitch and was eventually taken off to be replaced by Alexandre Lacazette.
Mesut Ozil: 4.5
Was ineffective once again as he made no effort to chase the game and win the ball in order to construct movements up front.
Alexis Sanchez: 4.5
Was ineffectual on his return from injury and failed to create any threat against Liverpool’s back-line before being replaced by Olivier Giroud.
Danny Welbeck: 5
Was making some runs to pressurize the Liverpool defence, forced Karius to make a couple of mistakes, however, the Englishman failed to make any on-target attempt like his teammates.
Substitutes
Francis Coquelin: 5
Was better than Ramsey. Tried to calm things down in midfield.
Alexandre Lacazette: 4
Came as a second half substitute. Failed to test Karius and trouble the Reds’ defence.
Olivier Giroud: 4
Came as a second half substitute. Failed to test Karius and trouble the Reds’ defence.
