Chelsea started their title defence this season in the most disastrous fashion, having lost their opening match to a resurgent Burnley side. However, things have taken a turn for good since then for the Blues as they have registered back to back wins over close rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Everton in the last two matches, so as to help themselves gain the much-needed impetus for a good season ahead.
The present coach of the side, Antonio Conte, has been quite sceptical of his team composition and is eyeing a few new players to be brought into the side for the season, who will be helpful in stabilizing the side and also aid the development of the side and turn it into a more formidable unit as the season progresses.
Among a number of players who have been linked with the reigning Premier League champions, one name that is currently right on the top of the priority list for the Blues is that of the English midfielder Danny Drinkwater, who is currently playing for the former Premier League champions Leicester City.
The 27-year-old central midfielder has been one of the most important parts of the Leicester City side since his arrival at the club in 2012. The Manchester born Englishman played a very important role for the Foxes in their lineup to make it possible for them to shock the football fraternity by winning the Premier League trophy for the first time in their history in the season prior to the last one. His presence alongside the enigmatic French enforcer N’Golo Kante in the middle of the field for the Foxes made it possible for their defenders to breathe easy and their strikers to get a consistent supply of quality balls into the attacking third and pile up the goals.
However, the story in the last season was quite different, as the Foxes failed to repeat their brilliant performance and ended in the twelfth position in the league table, handing their title over to the West London club. Lack of support from his teammates supposedly disappointed the 27-year-old Englishman and he might be eyeing a move away from the club in the ongoing summer transfer window.
The Blues have already got themselves one of the top enforcers in the form of Tiemoue Bakayoko, who was brought in from AS Monaco, the present French Ligue 1 Champions, in the summer transfer window. That, however, has not stopped them from trying to bag the English midfielder as well, who might also be interested to switch sides and play for the present champions of the Premier League.
