Manchester United have been a busy club this summer but they have certainly taken their time in luring top transfer targets to the club this summer. Jose Mourinho has already made three first team signings for the next season but is still looking for some quality in the transfer market to add to his squad and one player that was reportedly close to a move to Old Trafford is PSG’s Serge Aurier.
The controversial star was close to getting a medical done ahead of his move to Manchester but the Red Devils are yet to take their first step and this has seen Antonio Conte intervene. The Italian manager, who helped Chelsea to the league title last season, has now joined the race for the signature of the 24-year old this summer.
According to the report, Chelsea have declared their interest in the player and are looking to make a bid in the upcoming days. Aurier is currently banned from entering the UK, thanks to his assault on a police officer for which he was arrested. He is currently waiting for the English government to give him the green light to travel to the country and Chelsea want to take advantage of this delay and are looking to hijack this deal.
A right-back by trait, Aurier is a versatile defender who can play in any of the roles at the back and is known for his strength and dribbling abilities. With the decent technique in possession of the ball, the Ivory Coast international is a beast of a defender.
He is dominating in the air while his pace allows him to stay one step ahead of the opponents for most of the game. He may be reckless with his tackling but is consistently on the safer side and with 39 international appearances for Ivory Coast and 160 Ligue 1 appearances so far in his career, he is an established star, only pulled down by his controversies.
Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho will both feel that they can mend his ways and though he is reportedly close to a £27m move to Old Trafford, Conte wants him as an option at right wing-back this season.
Victor Moses has done a decent job in this make-shift role but with Champions League football beckoning, Conte will want to add some quality and Aurier is a decent option. Having missed out on the likes of Danilo, Chelsea cannot afford to sit back and relax and will have to work hard, if they want to land Aurier this summer. But is he the right man for the Blues?
