Chelsea, the current Premier League champions, are known not only for a strong team in the senior ranks but are also proud possessors of a very good youth team. However, they have not been able to capitalise on these home-grown players and have let them join teams like Watford and Bournemouth in the summer transfer window.
The Blues are well aware of the fact that as they lose their young players, it will be problematic for them to maintain a strong enough youth squad and the team will lack in the number of English players. As a result, the Blues are now looking to bring in more players who have been performing well at the youth level for England for the last few terms.
One such player, Oliver Pendlebury, who is currently playing for the youth side of the Championship club Reading, has been eyed by the Chelsea team management for the new season. The 15-year-old has been one of the brightest young players in England and has been playing regularly in the national team as well. He has been also awarded the captain’s armband for the Under-16 squad owing to his brilliant leadership skills and ability to hold the team as a cohesive unit on the pitch.
The Championship side Reading have been facing a number of enquiries for their prized possession for quite a long time but have been fending off the interests to keep Pendlebury with them. However, now with the current Premier League champions pitching in, it is going to be really difficult for the runners-up of the last Championship playoff to keep the young midfielder.
The 15-year-old whizkid has been one of the players who have made the opposition defence go wary with his running and swift footwork, so as to lift his team out of danger in critical situations and also chip in with occasional goals. He has a towering presence in the middle of the field and is known for his excellent ability to lead the team in the right way and get good results under their belt.
Pendlebury, apart from Chelsea, has attracted the attention of a number of clubs from the Championship as well as the Premier League and has received a lot of praise from the football experts from England as well as Europe. While the Royals are trying their level best to tie down their prized possession for the forthcoming seasons, with Chelsea showing interest in him, it will be difficult for them.
