Chelsea’s defence of their Premier League title started in a shoddy manner as they had to digest a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Burnley at Stamford Bridge. The loss has made Antonio Conte pretty conscious even as he has been pretty busy in the transfer market roping in a number of players.
According to reports, Chelsea are interested in Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic. The wide man has been scouted by Manchester United throughout the summer although the Red Devils have failed to match Inter’s demand as yet.
They have long been engaged in lengthy discussions with the Italian club but Inter’s strong stand ruled out a possible transfer and it is now understood that The Blues are ready to ignite this talk.
Following the harrowing performance against the Clarets on opening day, Conte seems to have lost his plot a bit and wants to do damage control by ringing in a number of new entrants. The 28-year-old has been involved in a tug of war between United and Inter and is expected to sign a new contract with the club which could make Chelsea’s task even more difficult.
Inter value the player around £48m, who scored a scorcher against the reigning Premier League champions in Singapore in a pre-season friendly. United’s interest in the player remains stagnant and the club could again scupper Chelsea’ s deal like they did with Romelu Lukaku.
Chelsea have one of the most talented wingers in Eden Hazard who played a pivotal part in their triumphant campaign last season. But adding Perisic will give a new dimension to their attack.
Hazard loves to cut back in and gets involved more centrally in attack while Perisic uses the width of the pitch and can continuously float in dangerous crosses for his strikers to attack. And with a striker like Alvaro Morata in the side, his addition could prove to be very decisive.
Hazard is yet to get back full fitness which has risen the need for an attacking player who can change the game with his invaluable inputs. The loss against Burnley exposed them very badly and the Italian gaffer is very adamant to add some players with Perisic being his preferred choice.
The Croatian can play on either wing and if needed, he can also be stationed in the no. 10 position. Chelsea has been looking for some sweet revenge after United hijacked Lukaku from under their noses and this could be the perfect opportunity for them to hammer a major blow to the Red Devils.
