Antonio Conte managed to create history in his first season in England and he is now adamant to have a similar campaign in the Premier League next season. They are also in the Champions League next season, which will mean that they will need extra depth in the squad, so it does not come as a surprise that the manager is still looking to add a couple of star players to his squad.
Chelsea have recently lost Serbian midfielder Nemanja Matic to Manchester United and are now searching for a replacement, who can walk into the first team during contingencies and reports suggest that they are looking at former Premier League winning English midfielder in Danny Drinkwater.
According to reports from the Sun, Chelsea have made a move to land the Leicester City star this summer but have made it clear to the Foxes that they are not willing to pay any more than £30m for the services of the experienced midfielder this summer. So is this the right choice by Conte?
A product of the Manchester United academy, Drinkwater failed to make a single league appearance at the Old Trafford where he spent four years on loan at different domestic clubs, before moving on to Leicester City in 2012. He established himself in the first team and took the Foxes to the Premier League in just his second year at the club, also helping them win the Premier League title, just a year ago.
Known for his ability to read the game and dictate the play in the middle of the field, Drinkwater is a central midfield who loves to thread passes from a deep role. He is strong and can fend off the opponent with ease while his concentration levels allow him to act as the first line of defence for his side, playing in front of the back four.
He is the first choice for the club at the moment but has only made three international appearances for the Three Lions, making his debut just last year. He is not exceptional with any of his attributes, but is more than a decent utility player, with immense experience under his belt.
Chelsea have spent on Tiemoue Bakayoko this summer and are expected to partner him with Kante in the midfield next season. Spanish star Cesc Fabregas is a creative backup for this role while the 27-year old Leicester City could be a defensive back-up for the French duo. But is he the right man for the Blues?
