Antonio Conte has made some interesting additions to a squad that lifted the Premier League title last season. However, he is not done with his transfer business yet and is eyeing a couple of decent additions to the squad before the window comes to a close. He is still linked with some exciting players recently and the latest name doing the rounds is Joao Cancelo.
According to a well-respected journalist from the Sky Sports, Chelsea are now monitoring the services of the 23-year old Portuguese international Joao Cancelo for a move this summer. The reporter claims that Chelsea are still looking to sign a full-back or two and are looking at Cancelo as an option for his squad.
A product of the academy at Benfica, the 23-year old moved to the senior side in 2014 but just a year later, he was sent out on loan to La Liga side Valencia where he was so impressive that he earned a permanent move to the club.
Ever since, he has cemented his place in the first team at the Mestalla and is growing into one of the most exciting right-backs in Europe at the moment.
Known for his defensive concentration and ability to read the game, Cancelo is a smart player who loves to sit back and shield his goal. He has a tremendous technique that allows him to get past his man with ease, even under severe pressure and is a player who is not afraid to throw himself about for his side.
He can be an asset going forward but he does not try anything fancy and is not really an attacking full-back. However, his technique allows him to put in pinpoint crosses, which is a huge asset for a side in England. At just 23, he is only going to improve and playing for a manager like Conte is only going to help him in his career.
He has already made 73 domestic appearances in Spain and six Champions League appearances to add to his five national team appearances and is an established star who will compete with Victor Moses for a place in the first team at the Stamford Bridge.
The versatile winger from Nigeria was exceptional in this role in the previous season and also made a cracking start to the new campaign in the previous season. But he may be a liability against the toughest sides in the Champions League and Cancelo might be a decent option.
