Chelsea started their title defence in the worst possible way, having been beaten prolifically by Burnley in their opening encounter 3-2. However, they have clawed their way back in the last two matches and have won both of them against considerably strong opponents in the form of Tottenham Hotspur and Everton.
Manager Antonio Conte, who led them to their sixth Premier League title win in the last term, has been much sceptical about his side’s defensive capabilities and is willing to add more players to his roster who can help to stabilise the backline. With a few more hours left in the closure of the transfer deadline day, Chelsea have agreed on a deal for a sturdy defender in the form of Davide Zappacosta, who is currently playing for the Italian side, Torino.
The 25-year-old, who plays as a right back in the Italian outfit, is known for his ability to make darting runs down the flanks and making crosses into the attacking third so as to feed his teammates with delightful crosses and provide them opportunities to score goals. He can also take the responsibility of keeping the opponents at bay with his defensive skills and perfectly fits the bill for the Blues in the present situation.
The Italian defender has been the centre of attraction of a number of clubs and might be poised to make a move out of Torino within the next few hours with the Premier League Champions in the calling.
Conte, who has inflicted the use of the 3-4-3 formation in his team since the last term and has put it to good use, has been quite sceptical of his right wing back, Moses’ performance since the start of the season and is looking to bring in someone who can be used as a replacement for him in the new season. With the option to bring in Davide Zappacosta at his disposal, the Italian mastermind might be happy enough to bring the player to Stamford Bridge in the next few hours.
Chelsea are looking to defend their title this season, with all the players contributing in the last term to make it a gallant success for the West London club. However, with some of them gone and a number of new faces added to the team, the Blues might bag the defender to find the right combination in the midfield and continue their winning streak in the Premier League.
