According to reports, Mathieu Debuchy could be on his way to Brighton & Hove Albion. The veteran defender has been offered to the Seagulls as a part of Arsene Wenger’s plan to trim his squad. The French gaffer has been trying to offload a number of players in a bid to free up some funds as Wenger might come back in the transfer market to improve his squad.
Debuchy’s future has long been a matter of concern for Wenger as the French defender has been on the books of the Gunners since 2014. The 32-year-old has failed to establish himself completely due to his injury problems and lack of motivation.
Debuchy has fallen down the pecking order and it doesn’t make sense to keep him at the Emirates anymore following the resurgence of Hector Bellerin in the last couple of seasons. He featured in just one match last season and it is pretty imperative for him to find a new destination for him to reignite his career.
Chris Hughton has been on the lookout for some new player in a bid to enhance his side’s quality and might entertain this offer. Despite Debuchy’s lack of game time, he remains one of the most experienced defenders in the Premier League and might help the league newbies to survive their inaugural season in the Premier League.
Debuchy arrived at the North London club for a fee of £12m but the Gunners are so adamant they are ready to let the player leave for free. He has been attracting a large chunk of the wage bill and in a bid to make room for some other players Wenger is ready to part ways with him.
The Seagulls had a pretty ordinary start to their Premier League journey as they lost their first two matches before registering their first point in the Premier League against Watford.
Debuchy is ready to make a new start to his dead career and would be more than happy to join the the club. He could have left the club earlier as Nice was planning to bring the player to his native country but the move failed as the French club went on to sign Christophe Jallet ending interest in him.
Debuchy could be the first in the line to leave the club as the Gunners are expecting to offload a number player before the transfer window closes down on 31st August. Does he still have a future at Arsenal?
