If one of the latest reports by Daily Mail is to be believed, Championship outfit Birmingham City are in the final stages of the process of securing the services of former Arsenal midfielder Alex Song. It is perceived that a deal has been agreed between the club and the player and it is only a matter of time now before the materialization of the deal becomes effective. At the onset, it does have the ingredients of being a superb deal for the club.
Birmingham City have had a torrid start to their new campaign in the English second division, having piled merely 4 points from their first 5 league outings. They have lost two games on the trot, which comprised of their outings against Burton Albion and Reading and they do look shaky at this stroke of hour. The summer transfer window is nearing its end and we do expect the Blues to pencil some more deals in the dying hours.
Harry Redknapp has bolstered his arsenal over the course of the summer transfer window, with some quality names like Marc Roberts, Harlee Dean, Craig Gardner and David Stockdale being already lured to his ranks. However, owing to their erratic run of form, their loopholes have surfaced and it goes without saying that they are needed to be fixed in order to ensure that they impose a substantial challenge for earning a play-off spot. Thus, Redknapp is inclined towards beefing up his squad.
Their interest in signing Song makes perfect sense, for he is someone who is very familiar with English football. Having emerged through the youth ranks of Bastia, the former Cameroon international was promoted to their senior career. He initially moved to Arsene Wenger’s outfit on loan and was eventually signed by them on a permanent deal. He made a fine name for himself when he was at Arsenal and was quick to cement his spot in the tactical nous of the North London based outfit.
Eventually he moved to Barcelona, but his tenure with them failed to garner the outcome which he would have expected and as a result, he was shipped out on loan to Premier League side West Ham United twice, before he make a permanent switch to the Russian Premier League side Rubin Kazan. The 29-year-old has vast amount of experience and with a move to St. Andrew’s Stadium, he can definitely render a helping hand to Redknapp to produce stellar outputs.
