Manchester United could not have asked for a better start to their Premier League campaign this year as they thumped West Ham United in the opening game of the season. Jose Mourinho has once again spent big on his squad this summer and has one of the most complete squads in England at the moment.
However, his side is expected to fight on all four fronts this season and the manager is looking to make sure that he has all the depth and quality in the squad that he can acquire this transfer window. This has seen him linked with some of the biggest stars in Europe even with just over a week left of the transfer window.
One such name, which is now doing the rounds, is Bayern Munich star, Arjen Robben. Arguably the best winger at the moment in Europe, Robben is now 33 and is also one of the most experienced players in his position in the game. He is an important part of the squad at the Allianz Arena but reports claim that the player is tempted to move to Old Trafford before the deadline day.
Having won almost everything possible with the German outfit, the Dutch international, who has been linked with a move to Manchester in almost each of the summer transfer windows in the last few years, could be allowed to leave by Carlo Ancelotti, who wants young blood to come into the first team this year.
Known for his pace and exceptional dribbling abilities, there is hardly any defender in Europe at the moment that can stop him in full flow. Strong, agile, athletic and versatile, the 33-year old loves to play on the right wing, and cut inside on to his stronger foot and he has a trademark that he can pull out at any time, in any game.
He has 90 goals and 55 assists in 168 Bundesliga appearances to add to 29 goals and 19 assists in 97 Champions League appearances. He is the skipper of his national side, where he has 92 caps already and is a player who will walk into the first-team at Old Trafford.
Armenian winger Henrikh Mkhitaryan and English youngster Jesse Lingard are the first choice players to play on the right wing. Robben is a huge upgrade on both those names and will push Mkhitaryan to a more central role, which could benefit United.
At 33, he might not be a long term option but having him in the squad this year will immediately make Manchester United genuine contenders for the Premier League title and also give them a shot at the European title this season.
