Neymar’s departure has left Barcelona reeling with bags of money and the Spanish giants have been digging deep in the transfer market to find a successor of the Brazilian. Philippe Coutinho has been the primary choice for the Catalans but Liverpool’s strong hold on the player has forced them to shift their intention to other targets.
Barcelona had a number of offers knocked back for the Brazilian and if reports are to be believed Tottenham Hotspur’s Christian Eriksen has emerged out as a possible candidate to replace Neymar at the Nou Camp.
The pursuit of Eriksen could prove to be much tougher with than of Coutinho. Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is very famous for playing hardballs over transfer negotiations and he is expected to act even stricter in the case of Eriksen knowing that Barcelona has a large pool of cash to spend.
The future of Andres Iniesta is in the clouds as the Spaniard has not been at his best in the last season. Injury coupling with his age, foiled the last campaign and the Spanish club wants an immediate end to this problem.
Eriksen has gone onto establish himself him self as one of the finest attacking midfielders among the current crops of players and he was one of the influential players last season as the North Londoners had a tremendous campaign, finishing second to Chelsea in the Premier League.
The Danish midfielder racked up eight goals and assisted 15 in the last campaign and he certainly holds a pretty pivotal role in Mauricio Pochettino’s strategy this season. Negotiations are expected to start in the upcoming days but Spurs have an edge in this transfer saga as the Danish international signed a long term contract last year.
Eriksen’s attributes more or less similar to what the Catalans need and he won’t have to tweak his playing style much to acclimatise with the Spanish conditions.
Spurs sold Kyle Walker to Manchester City for a whopping £50m so in that point of view the 25-year-old could be worth £100m. Spurs have a very strong wage structure imposed at the club and the recent comments of Danny Rose will have a huge effect in the later period of the season.
The Catalans will be trying to tempt the player with a better pay packet and a chance to combine with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez. Barcelona are yet to lodge a formal offer for the player and it remains to be seen how they approach Spurs in this move.
