Arsenal are in complete disarray at this point of time and frankly speaking, even the staunchest supporters of Arsene Wenger might have started to feel that his tactical nous are on the verge of becoming obsolete. The Gunners, in their latest outing, were torn apart by Liverpool at the Anfield as the home side embarrassed Wenger’s men with a thumping 4-0 victory.
The London based outfit might have brought two galvanizing names this summer in the shapes of Sead Kolasinac and Alexandre Lacazette but their defensive loopholes are yet to be amended. Apart from their woes on the pitch, they are running out of time for their pursuit of extending the contracts of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil as they are far from reaching any sort of a conclusion.
Out of these two maestros, Sanchez is the one who is getting frustrated by the spineless displays of his teammates. The Chilean has been a subject of interest of fellow Premier League giants Manchester City who have been keeping a close eye on him throughout the summer. Besides, the former Barcelona attacker is interested to reunite with Pep Guardiola, under whom he worked while he was at Barca.
The scenario is considerably tormented for Monsieur Wenger, for he might have to see Sanchez leaving the Emirates Stadium as a free agent next summer. In order to take the advantage of Arsenal’s sorry state, the blue half of Manchester are set to offer £70million plus Jason Denayer to the North London based outfit to prise out lure Sanchez to the Etihad Stadium before the transfer window shuts down.
Denayer is a product of Manchester City’s youth setup and plies his trade as a central defender. Apparently, he is set to be used as a bait to tempt Wenger to strike Sanchez off his books. The 28-year-old had made it clear earlier this summer that he is desirous to play in the Champions League, which of course his current employers cannot afford after finishing 5th in the league table last season and thus, found a spot in the Europa League.
Although getting ample amount of money along with Denayer might seem a lucrative resort, Arsenal should not change their perception of keeping Sanchez with them this season. After their horrendous show against Jurgen Klopp’s troops, it would be ludicrous on the part of the FA Cup champions to sell him, as an astute replacement for the veteran forward is unlikely to be found before 31st August.
