While it is definitely not what the fans would want during such a crisis time at the club, but reports are ripe that Manchester City’s talented youngster Jadon Sancho is on his way out of the Etihad giving a huge transfer boost to Arsenal. The Gunners have been hot on the heels of the 17-year-old over the past one month and now with the player keen to return to London, has a real chance of arriving at the Emirates.
Arsenal will face stiff competition from Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur to land the winger, but given the heavy recruitment that the Red Devils did this summer, Sancho is unlikely to get a break into the first team. His apprehensions concerning the Manchester outfits remain the same, who have spent well over £300 million to upgrade their squad this summer.
The English starlet has been a hot prospect in the summer transfer market with brilliant performances. He was named the Golden Player at the recently concluded European Under-17 Championships, and Sancho is definitely one of the most exciting youngsters in the English domestic circuit currently.
And although City wouldn’t want to part ways with him under any condition, Sancho is not on a professional contract yet and he can be poached by any club although it would amount to a significant compensation fee.
The left wing has been a crisis position for the club of late. With the club adapting the back-three formation since the closing stages of the last season, flanks have been mostly given to players who can play as a wingback as well. That has already Kieran Gibbs and Carl Jenkinson leave the club and Sancho would surely be wary of it although a first team chance is highly unlikely for him.
Arsene Wenger has been subjected to vile criticism over the last few days following the loss to Liverpool with pundits calling for his resignation and fans vandalizing Arsenal stores and spraying “Wenger Out” outside the Emirates Stadium. Bringing Sancho, however, wouldn’t stabilize the chaos currently at the club but the experienced Wenger should see the long-term consequences of having someone like him on the side.
Sancho had moved to Manchester City back in 2015 and has been a regular at the underage side ever since. His impressive displays allowed him to play a few games for the reserves as well although he is yet to break into the first team. He has scored 12 goals and provided four assists in 14 games in the U18 competition and looks likely for the next step.
