The Premier league is already in its second match week and it was tremendously competitive and exhilaratingly entertaining, to say the least. The teams, with a number of new players, who joined the first match week got over, have made the campaign look even more intriguing and contributing in the wins or losses for their respective clubs.
Among a number of talking points that made this match week all the more special, here are the most important talking points from the second weekend of the season.
Manchester United and Liverpool’s winning form:
The Red Devils once again netted four against a rather demoralised looking Swansea City side, who came off a lacklustre draw against Southampton in their last match. While Romelu Lukaku, Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba scored one goal each to add to their tally from the last week, defender Eric Bailly scored the very first goal of his career with Manchester United since joining the club in the last term.
Liverpool, on the other hand, showed great composure and attacking intent against their opponents, Crystal Palace, and won the contest by a single goal from their star man Sadio Mane, who is now their leading scorer with two goals in two matches. Both the teams are looking good at the current situation and are looking like strong contenders to win the league this time.
Jese Downs Arsenal:
The Premier League is known for its unpredictable nature and it was evident once again as the Gunners, who won their last match in a hard-fought battle against Leicester City recently, lost to a rather easy opposition in the form of Stoke City.
The Potters were fresh from a loss at the hands of Everton and were looking somewhat demoralised, until their new recruit Jese Rodriguez, who was signed on loan from the French Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint Germain for the season, inspired them to dish out a resilient performance to keep the one goal lead intact for ninety minutes and win the match.
Chelsea back to winning ways:
The defending champions, inspired by two goals from left-wing back Marcos Alonso, made sure they bagged three points to come back to winning ways after last week’s disappointing performance against Burnley.
The Blues were facing a resilient Tottenham Hotspur side, who came back from behind to equalise in the 86th minute but had to bow to the brilliance of the Spaniard, who scored in the 88th minute after scoring the opening goal with a bamboozling free kick in the 24th minute. Looks like Antonio Conte’s tactics have started to show results already for the Premier League champions in this season.
