West Ham United have been under a lot of pressure to perform in the next season, with the last one not being very good for the players and the fans, which saw them finish the term in the 11th position on the league table. The Hammers are looking to turn this disappointment around in the next season and make it a good one in terms of results.
Slaven Bilic, the current man in charge at the London Stadium, is well aware of the problems that have racked up in his squad, especially in the attacking department, and that he needs a number of players to make sure that they head back to the winning ways in the next term. He has been eyeing a couple of strikers in the form of Anthony Modeste and Cedric Bukambu from German side Cologne and Spanish club Villareal respectively in order to strengthen his attack for the next season.
The Croatian manager has been in dire need of players in his attacking department after what was a pretty disappointing season for his strikers Andy Carroll and Diafra Sakho, who faced injury scares to miss a chunk of the action in the last term. With the possibility of both the players being offloaded in the summer transfer window, the Hammers manager is in dire need of reinforcements to be brought into the squad for the next season.
However, according to latest reports, the Premier League club have faced grave disappointment in terms of their pursuit for both the strikers, with both Cologne and Villareal rejecting the offers made for their star strikers Modeste and Bukambu, which were somewhere around £22 million.
Cologne, reportedly, have been looking for something around £35 million to let go off their prized possession Anthony Modeste in the next season. The player has been one of the impact players for the German Bundesliga side and might not be released by them unless the prescribed price is met by the suitor bidding for him, despite the fact that he is already in his 30’s.
Reportedly, this has made the Hammers shift their attention towards Olivier Giroud from Arsenal, who has been playing mostly as a substitute in the last season and might look for a club who can give him the opportunity to start for them on a regular basis in the next season. They are also in contention to bag Michy Batshuayi from Chelsea, the young Belgian being restricted to only a handful of starts in the last season.
