West Bromwich Albion are on their way to build a strong team for the next season and are looking forward to bring in players who have made an impact for their respective clubs in the last few seasons. They have already signed Jay Rodriguez from Southampton to increase their firepower for the next term and are now looking for a top class defender to safeguard their goal.
The Baggies showed great determination in the last season, especially in the defensive areas, which made them almost invincible on their home turf. However, away from the Hawthorns, the story was not so perfect for them, as they lacked depth in their squad while facing the other clubs, which included the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham and defending champions Chelsea.
The Baggies have been mostly dependent on players like Jonny Evans and Craig Dawson throughout the last term, as the Irish and English players tried to make sure that their club ended in the top eight in the Premier League table. However, late goof-ups in the season did not help their cause and they ended in the 10th position.
The main reason behind the Baggies’ disappointing end to the season has been the absence of a specialist full back in their squad in the last season. This is what has caused the current man in charge at the Hawthorns, Tony Pulis to eye a top class left back, whom he wants to bring for the next season in his team, and among the shortlisted candidates, the name on the top of his list is that of the Arsenal left, Kieran Gibbs.
Gibbs has been a part of the line-up for the North London club since 2007 and has made a number of crucial appearances for his club in the early stages of his career with the Gunners. In the last few seasons, however, the English defender has been pushed down the pecking order by the Spanish full back Nacho Monreal and the situation is supposed to get no better with the arrival of the Bosnian left wing back Sead Kolasinac from the German Bundesliga side Schalke during the summer transfer window.
This has, reportedly, made the 27-year old disappointed and he is looking to head out of the Emirates Stadium to become a part of another Premier League outfit. The Baggies are looking to take advantage of the situation and make a bid to bring in the player to solve their problem at the left back position in the next term.
