Latest reports from English news agency, Daily Star suggests Jose Mourinho is currently eyeing Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal amid transfer struggles. The same report claims that the former Chelsea boss has asked United bigwig Ed Woodward for at least another signing before the start of the season next month.
With the market in the English Premier League extremely difficult, Jose has now turned his attention to some other midfielder. And he couldn’t have found any better alternative than Bayern’s Arturo Vidal. The Chilean International has been one of Bayern’s best midfielders since coming in from Juventus.
Strengths
Aggression is often the key to Arturo Vidal’s style of play. It’s even safe to say that he’s one of the world’s most physically challenging midfielders. Vidal’s mentality on the pitch often helps Bayern to dominate the opposition midfield, which has been a key reason for their success over the years. His passing and distribution has also improved significantly since he arrived at Bayern.
Vidal is an all action midfielder. His physical dominance on the pitch is coupled with terrific tackling and defensive abilities. Alongside Thiago or Xabi Alonso, Vidal has been ever so impressive for Bayern in the middle. He makes over two interceptions per game and is particularly strong when it comes to headed duels and tackles.
Apart from his impressive skill in dominating the midfielders, Vidal has also an eye for goal and a killer right foot. He was often seen scoring with long range efforts during his time in the Bundesliga. This could be handful trait for Jose Mourinho’s side because of their lack of invasion into the opposition penalty box.
Weaknesses
Composure or temperament has been a significant weakness for Arturo Vidal. The Chilean often tends to lose temper if things aren’t going all too well for his side.
He can then make rash challenges and to other silly stuff on the pitch, ultimately running a risk of getting sent off by the ref. He needs to show a lot more composure if he wants to further improve his game.
Opportunities
If Arturo Vidal does join Manchester United, then the combination of Paul Pogba and Vidal in midfield can be something really special as the two are pretty much familiar with their playing style thanks to their time together at Juventus.
Paul Pogba will get more freedom in the middle which will inevitably lead to more scoring opportunities for Jose Mourinho’s men.
Threats
Bayern Munich have been known to be quite adamant in keeping their players, especially if he’s someone as important as Vidal. He also has a good relationship with coach Carlo Ancelotti and at this moment of time, there doesn’t seem to be any clear reason as to why Vidal should move elsewhere.
However, as we all know, in football, everyone seems to have a price and with the right offer, Bayern Munich could well be persuaded to sell their midfield sensation but that price will probably be higher than 50 million euros.
