It seems Swansea City boss Paul Clement prefers working with proven strikers with age not an issue in his selection criteria. He worked his magic with veteran Fernando Llorente last season as the Spaniard striker teamed up with Sigurdsson and in a breathtaking finish to the Premier League season, managed to ensure safety for his side.
The Welsh side have already secured the prized deal of Tammy Abraham and Clement wants at least another forward to re-launch their efforts next season. If reports are to be believed, Clement wants to bring Alvaro Negredo to the Liberty Stadium.
The former assistant manager to Carlo Ancelotti, Clement wants a more robust squad for the upcoming season to challenge for a position in the top half of the table and has already started to do the needful as he brought in Roque Mesa from Las Palmas to bolster his midfield.
Swansea have been linked with a number of forwards available in the market so far and Clement has also considered the return of Wilfried Bony who has been trying to regain his form since his departure from the Liberty Stadium.
Negredo already has had two spells with two different clubs in England with the latest being with Middlesbrough. Famous for his physically imposing play, the 31-year-old netted 10 goals for the Riversiders but despite his attempts, Boro got demoted to the Championship.
Negredo arrived in Manchester City in 2013 following his excellent display for Sevilla. In his first season, he emulated his superb form as he led the team from the front to guide the Sky Blues to a Premier League and League Cup double.
But his form started to dip after another blistering start and his performance nosedived and he was eventually shipped to Valencia on loan and the Spanish club later sealed a permanent move for him.
Negredo still has two years to run down his contract but Valencia is willing to listen to offers for the forward. Championship outfit Leeds United are also considering their options and might make a move for the striker. Thomas Christiansen has been searching for a suitable partner for Chris Wood and has targeted the £6.4m rated player.
Negredo’s career has been full of ups and downs but he is still very determined to give an uplift to his career and a move to Liberty Stadium might help him with that. Fernando Llorente re-lived his moments last season as he emerged as the sole provider of goals alongside Gylfi Sigurdsson.
Negredo has some unfinished business in the Premier League and he could achieve that with Swansea City next season.
