Alberto Moreno, the 24-year-old Spaniard was revealed at Liverpool in the summer of 2014. Bought from Sevilla in a £12m deal, he made his debut against Manchester City in a 1-3 away loss.
The penalty conceded away at Arsenal on 26th August 2016 saw him face a lot of flak. He managed to make 18 appearances over the course of last season starting only 8 of them, gradually having ceded ground to James Milner who was preferred at left-back.
He was subject to a £11m bid by Napoli. It was rejected by the Reds which looks to have been a rather smart move in hindsight with a lot of clubs looking to sign the 24-year old. Deemed surplus at the Anfield, Moreno is attracting interest from an array of Italian clubs with Roma at the helm of the pack.
Possible destinations
Roma
With Antonio Rudiger looking set to join Chelsea, Roma need reinforcements in defence. Roma’s director Monchi seems to have made his interest in Moreno apparent in course of the Mohamed Salah transfer.
What is holding Liverpool back in agreeing a fee seems to be the failure at strengthening their defence. Their pursuit of Van Dijk came to an abrupt end after Southampton complained of illegal approach.
Swansea City
The Swans have reportedly bid £13m for the out of favour defender which is a quite a sum for a bench player.
Liverpool could accept the offer but is currently holding out in the hopes that a bidding war ensues as Moreno is on the radar of other clubs and two months of the transfer window still remaining.
Should Liverpool accept, it would give them the opportunity to recoup the amount invested in the player.
Napoli
The Gli Azzurri could come back with a better offer for the defender further driving up his price. But chances of that happening are rare as according to Football Italia, Napoli are looking at the Roma full-back Mario Rui instead.
Alberto Moreno desperately wants a move to La Liga though. A move for the Spaniard to greener pastures with more first team opportunities is subject to Liverpool signing a replacement, chances of which so far look bleak.
Moves for Klopp’s identified targets in the aforementioned position have not yielded results as of yet and it would be careless of Liverpool to let go of Moreno without securing someone at least to cover for, if not replace the 31-year old James Milner.
