Southampton are looking forward to shrug off the disappointment of the last term and make it into the top six in the next term to book a berth in the European qualifiers and they are eyeing a number of players to be brought into the side in the summer transfer window so as to strengthen their team, especially the backline, which has been the strong point of the team for the last few seasons.
The Southampton defence has been playing exceptionally well since the inclusion of the Dutch defender Virgil Van Dijk into the team in 2015 from the Scottish Premiership champions Celtic. The 26-year-old defensive beast has been nothing less than a rock in the heart of the defence for the Saints and has been considered to be one of the best defenders in Europe in the current situation.
However, the Dutchman has reportedly made it clear to his club that he might be willing to depart in the summer and has been ordered to practice alone unless there is a decision made regarding his future. Meanwhile, the South Coast club is looking forward to bring in someone who might be able to take the place of the brilliant defender in their team in the next season.
Reportedly, the new manager in charge of the Saints, Mauricio Pellegrino, is looking forward to bring in the Belgian starlet Zinho Vanheusden to the team for the next season. The head coach of Southampton is sure that the 18-year-old can be a good addition to the team and can give them stability in the backline in case the Saints lose their mainstay in defence, Virgil Van Dijk, in the summer transfer window to one of the big name clubs in the Premier League.
The young defender has been looking good in the backline for the Italian club Inter Milan, for which he has been playing since 2016. Vanheusden, who has played 48 games in total so far for the Serie A outfit in its youth ranks, is termed to be one of the upcoming stars of Belgium and might be playing for some of the biggest teams in Europe in the forthcoming days. However, he has no experience as of yet of playing for the senior team.
The South Coast club have always been a team who have depended on their young players and they might continue to do the same in the future as well, providing opportunities for players like Zinho Vanheusden and bring out the star in him.
