Liverpool have been left frustrated in pursuit of their prime transfer targets Naby Keita and Virgil Van Dijk this summer. RB Leipzig are adamant not to allow Keita leave at any cost in their maiden Champions League campaign whereas, the Reds themselves have published a public apology and stopped chasing Dutchman Van Dijk following Southampton’s allegation of ‘tapping up’ their key resource.
Jurgen Klopp, the Reds’ boss, has brought in three new faces this window namely Dominic Solanke, Mohamed Salah and Andrew Robertson. However, the Merseysiders are keen to bolster their reserves and have inquired about Polish teenager Sebastian Szymañski. The 18-year old midfielder has progressed through the youth ranks of Polish outfit Legia Warshaw and broke into their senior squad last year.
Szymañski has represented Poland at several youth ranks and is highly rated for his enormous talent as well as immense potential. He appeared 11 times last season and netted his first senior goal in a Champions League qualifier against Finnish outfit IFK Mariehamn. Klopp, who is known for scouting talents from Ekstraklasa, has reportedly identified Szymañski for his promising display after monitoring him for quite a long period.
A bid has not been made yet, however, the Reds will need reinforcements at youth level as a few of their starlets are set to depart on loan for regular experience at senior level. Liverpool have a promising set of prodigies who progressed through the academy ranks before breaking into their senior side. Sheyi Ojo, Ben Woodburn, Harry Wilson, Ovie Ejaria, Ryan Kent and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The youngsters have impressed the gaffer in their limited first team opportunities and will either be promoted to the Reds’ senior squad or allowed to leave on loan to experience first-team football. The teenage starlet thus will be offered a key role for the reserves next season and will have a golden opportunity to flourish in their youth set up.

Szymañski signed his first professional contract last summer with Legia Warsaw and has been a part of their 2016-17 Ekstraklasa winning squad. The teenager, however, was primarily involved with the U19 squad and played a pivotal role in their title triumph. He is predominantly a central midfielder but also capable of playing as a right winger as well as in an attacking midfield role.
He dictates the game from the middle of the park using his strong passing traits along with impressive ball control and tireless runs. Szymañski loves to dribble past the defence, do layoffs and shoot from distance. He has strong set-piece skills that will be beneficial in the absence of Cameron Brannagan and Pedro Chirivella.
Brannagan is having some contract discourse and might be sold in coming days following an unsuccessful loan spell with Ligue One outfit Fleetwood Town whereas Chirivella has already been loaned out to Eredivisie outfit Willem II for the forthcoming season. The Legia Warsaw prodigy might also be included in club’s U19 side before being promoted to Premier League 2 ( aka Professional Development League).
Szymañski is an exciting talent and tipped to be a future star for Jurgen Klopp’s Reds if the deal eventually takes place.
